SIX POINT THE CRISP PILSNER

Six Point The Crisp Pilsner. I really wanted this to be good after a long day at a motor show and a longer night eating meat at yet another top-flight restaurant (Wolfgang Pucks in New York this time) with a 10 page wine list and just five of the world's most boring beers.

So I snaffled this when we got back to another bar later. It started with a reasonable head but that didn't last long and it also left it with very little carbonation in the bottom half of the glass.

That's a shame, because it's indeed a crisp pilsner and one of the better US pilsners in a land seemingly obsessed with citrus-flavoured, deeply bitter, overly dry-hopped IPAs. There is still space for nuance, as this indicates.

It will be too light for some, but that's partly because it's served quite cold. That's an old Indian trick for crap beers, but this isn't crap. Sadly, because mainstream American beers are crap, anybody coming to this from a mainstream beer wants it served just above freezing, like a Coors or a Bud.

They don't deserve this. It could use a little more bitter bite late, but overall it's pretty good.

7/10
