STONE AND WOOD PACIFIC ALE

Another review from Beeriosity "Prospect" Martin Beves.

Stone and Wood Pacific Ale. A hot Sydney afternoon, I pop into The Oaks at Neutral Bay in Sydney for a cold one.

All the usual suspects are on tap with a few wild cards like 4 Pines Kolsch and Sapporro Black. I see Stone and Wood Pacific Ale, a beer that I’ve tried many times before but I decide to try it again to see if I can understand what all the hype is about.

After all, a beer that took out the top spot for the Critics Choice Awards 2011 can’t be too bad.

Appearance wise it’s a very pale straw colour and fizzy. It could easily be mistaken for a cider at first glance.

It has the mouth feel of mineral water, incredibly fizzy and thin. It’s as though someone has filled a glass with ice then mixed in some tropical fruit juice and Passiona soft drink to make it fizzy. Someone drank it leaving behind the ice cubes, then offered you a taste of the icy water left behind. This is a really one dimensional beer – fizzy passionfruit. Incredibly overrated, I still don’t understand what all the fuss is about.
