STRAND BREWING CO MUSASHI BLACK IPA

Strand Brewing Co Musashi Black IPA. The “premium handcrafted ale” had me a bit apprehensive, but the look and aroma when I poured reassured me.

None of that dark stuff, this is black and the Canon concentrates the chocolate and coffee aroma from the toasted Dark Crystal Malt. The Magnum and Perle hops don’t give the resinous texture that I like, but there is enough hoppy bite to satisfy and the full malty mouthfeel belies the 7.5% ABV. This gives the impression of a much stronger beer.

To think that only six years ago I was wary of dark beers, now I search for them. Especially the “oxymoron” Black India Pale Ale. This is a fine example of the cause of the conversion.
