SUMMERWINE BREWERY COHORT DBBR-PA

Summer Wine Brewery Cohort Double Black Belgian Rye-PA. Oh, Aye. This very different beer is brewed in Yorkshire with Pale, Rye, Carafa and other specialty malts, new world hops and Belgian yeast.

The thick viscous pour and the hoppy roast malt aroma is very inviting. The first sip has dark roast chocolate and coffee with a bite of resinous hops and luckily no hint of the Belgian sweetness. The mouthfeel is rich, but doesn’t do justice to the appearance and bitter dry finish doesn’t quite get there.

I’m not sure what Reginald Hill’s Inspector Andy Dalziel would make of this, but fair do’s it’s not bad.
