SWELL BREWING PALE ALE

Swell Brewing Pale Ale. When I saw this on tap and I nearly didn’t try it as the logo reminded me of “Byron Bay Brewing” which is contract brewed in Western Australia by Carlton United Breweries (CUB). However, upon closer inspection I noticed it was a different logo with a surfboard on it. But let’s face it you don’t usually associate flavoursome beers with ones that have lame summer and beach culture motifs. XXXX Summer Bright Lager anyone?

It turns out this beer is an American style pale which is a sessionable 4.7% ABV and 32 IBU.

Despite the surfer references this microbrewery is based in McLaren Vale, South Australia which is one of Australia’s most famous wine regions.

Honey colour, slightly opaque with a fine head. Citrus aroma with medium body and moderate carbonation. Clean citrus hop flavour, refreshing with a bitter finish. This would go down well on a hot day. A nice balance between flavour and refreshment.

Not a bad little quaffer.

7/10
