UINTA BREWING DUBHE IMPERIAL BLACK IPA

Uinta Brewing Co. Dubhe Imperial Black IPA. An interesting mix of illegalities in its home state of Utah.

At 9.2% this is way above the 4% ABV that can generally be sold and the addition of hemp seed appears to be a pun on the name Duhbe (pronounced Doo-Bee). Duhbe is actually the star Alpha Ursae Majoris, which became Utah’s Centennial Star in ….. forget it, you can look it up for yourself.

The beer: It is black with the hops poking through the strong malt aroma. For an IPA this is very malty. No complaints, it is a lovely satisfying beer. The malt cuts the bitterness and this is not what you would expect from the 109 IBU. A very full mouthfeel and a slightly dry bitter finish.

Take pity on the next Mormons that knock on your door as they are not allowed to drink this wonderfully balanced beer.

8/10
