VAN DIEMAN BREWING RAGGED JACK PALE ALE

Van Dieman Brewing Ragged Jack Pale Ale. Van Dieman Brewing started in 2009 and is based at Evandale, just outside Launceston, Tasmania. Apparently the beer name refers to Ragged Jack, a mountain close by to Evandale.

I picked up a bottle of their pale ale from a bottlo in Hobart as I was keen to try some Tassie brews other than Cascade or James Boags. Given Pride of Ringwood hops are grown in Tasmania I was hopping (see what I did there?) this would be an Aussie pale ale style brewed with some fresh hops. However, it’s an English style pale ale coming in at a weak 4.2% ABV.

Low carbonation with poor head retention. Floral and tobacco aroma. Mild floral / citrus flavour followed by a predominately tobacco flavour. It lacks carbonation, body and flavour.

Very Ordinary.
